What a week!

The first week of school has been a doozy! Garret was playing soccer yesterday during lunch recess and had a collision with a 6th grader. From "eye-witness" reports, I heard that both feet left the ground and he went flying backwards and landed directly on his back and head. The nurse called me from school and said that his head was fine ( we knew it would be, it's the hardest part of his body), but that he was complaining about his right knee. After I picked him up and had a quick consultation with an ER doc. friend, we headed over to urgent care where he was put on crutches with a knee immobilizer. This morning we were able to see our pediatrician, who is a sports medicine doctor, and given a pretty good prognosis. We think he bruised the fat pads in his knee and hyperextended it. He's on crutches 3-5 days and in a brace for up to a week and then we re-evaluate. We are thrilled it is not a season ending injury ( so is his soccer coach).
